Shelly Kaplan
Counselor, 55

Shelly Myles Kaplan of Monticello, a former social worker for Sullivan County, a former hospital administrator at the former Hamilton Avenue Hospital, a drug and alcohol abuse counselor and a longtime area resident, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at his home. He was 55 years of age.
The son of the late Dr. Hyman and Ann Falkowitz Kaplan, he was born in New York City and grew up in Woodridge.
Mr. Kaplan is survived by his wife, Deborah Lyn Kaplan of Monticello; two sons, Corey and Scott, both of Monticello; two sisters, Jill Kaplan and her husband, David Shilkot and Roni Kaplan and her husband, Michael Kline, all of California; two nieces, Elaia of the state of Washington and Ashley of California; and a host of friends and extended family.
Services were held Wednesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Irving Goodman officiating.
Burial was made in the Woodridge Synagogue Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Joseph McGerty, 75

Joseph Edward McGerty of Monticello died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 75 years of age.
The son of the late Moses Wilbur and Thelma Christianson Johnson McGerty II, he was born July 17, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Mr. McGerty was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Phil Auer of California; two grandsons, Jeffrey McDonald and Joseph McDonald and his wife, Jaime, all of California; a great-grandson, Noah McDonald of California; a sister, JoAnn Parsley of Utah; and a brother, Jackie Johnson of Texas. He was predeceased by a brother, James McGerty.
Graveside services and burial will be held in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.

Margaret Hammer
Homemaker, 83

Margaret Hammer of Livingston Manor, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Clay and Lillian Friehaut Amback, she was born May 8, 1921, in the Town of Callicoon. She was the widow of John M. Hammer who died after 63 years of marriage.
Mrs. Hammer was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Clark Heins of Monticello; a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Jane Hammer of Woodbourne; a sister, Ruth Klinger of Roscoe; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Clara Mae Klinger.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in the Bon Air Cemetery in Roscoe.

Nellie Cypert, 97
Founder Local AARP

Nellie Cypert of Woodbourne, a lifelong area resident and one of the founders and organizers of the AARP in Grahamsville died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 97 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Ertz Hodge, she was born June 28, 1907, in Loch Sheldrake. She was the widow of Daniel B. Cypert who died in 1970 after 43 years of marriage.
Mrs. Cypert was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Grace Vernooy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with Father John Lynch officiating.

Rosalia R. Huerta
Ret. Teacher, 84

Rosalia R. Huerta, an eight-year resident of Hollywood, Fla., a retired over 30-years teacher with the Ellenville School system and a former resident of Loch Sheldrake and Hurleyville, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at her home. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Luis and Josefa G. Pelaez Escalona, she was born August 30, 1919, in Campechuela, Cuba. She was the widow of Julian F. Huerta who died in 1996.
Mrs. Huerta is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Julian B. and Marlene Huerta of Fairbanks, Alaska; five sisters, Isabel Parra, Florangel Gonzalez, Edelmira Gutierrez, Maria Martinez and Blanca Bertot; a granddaughter, Nicole Persson and her husband, Mark, of San Rafael, Calif.; two great-grandsons, Ian and Adam; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Rosalia Walter, who died in 1972.
Monsignor Edward Straub officiated at private services.
Burial will be made in the Hurleyville Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty.

Kori Blaunstein
SCCC Student, 19

Kori L. Blaunstein of Ellenville, a lifelong area resident, a student at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake and a 2002 graduate of Ellenville Central School, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Arden Hill campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 19 years of age.
The daughter of Glen A. and Teri VanDermark Blaunstein, she was born April 30, 1985, in Kingston.
She is survived by her parents, at home; a brother, Matt Blaunstein, at home; her maternal grandparents, Phil and Sandra VanDermark of Napanoch; her paternal grandparents, Jack and Judy Blaunstein of Boynton, Fla.
Cremation was private.

Alta Y. Fuller
Ret. Teacher, 99

Alta Y. Fuller of Brewster, Mass., a former longtime resident of Jeffersonville, and an English and History teacher in the former Youngsville Central School and a first grade teacher in the Jeffersonville Central School until her retirement in 1973, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the Pleasant Bay Nursing Home in Brewster. She was 99 years of age.
She was born February 2, 1905, in Rossie, N.Y. She was the widow of Kenneth C. Fuller, a well known coach in Jeffersonville, who died in 1970.
Mrs. Fuller was a graduate of St. Lawrence University where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
She was a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville and while a local resident had sung in the choir and served on many boards and committees of the church. She was a member of the Revonah-Lincoln Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
In a family statement, it was said, "Music was a great love for her and she enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She also loved her cats and in her later years always had a stuffed toy kitty on her lap. She was well loved in Pleasant Bay Nursing Home for her spirit and wit."
Mrs. Fuller is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Bethany A. and Rev. Dr. Kent D. Moorehead of Brewster, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Christine A. Vogt of Hanover, N.H., and Jeffrey C. Vogt of Granby, Mass.
Private graveside services and burial will be held at the Green Hill Cemetery in Youngsville at a later time with her son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Kent Moorehead, officiating.
