Betty H. Green
Retired RN, 79

Betty H. Green of Umatilla, Fla., a former resident of Woodbourne and a retired registered nurse in the operating room for both Community General Hospital in Harris and its predecessor, the Monticello Hospital, died January 8, 2004, at her home in Florida. She was 79 years of age.
The widow of Peter Green, she was born January 1, 1925, in Frederick, Okla.
Mrs. Green was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Woodbourne and the New York State Nurses Association. She was active for many years in the Cub and Boy Scouts in Woodbourne as well as the Fallsburg Little League. She and her late husband enjoyed square dancing in Grahamsville and around Sullivan County.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a devoted mother."
Mrs. Green is survived by a daughter, Joanne Ozolins of Woodbourne; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Judy Green of Boynton Beach, Fla., Stephen Green and his companion, Mary Hall, of Milford, and Richard and Laura Green of Tampa, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Rae and Morris Helm of Camby, Minn; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Cross of Grahamsville and Josie Green of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas, who died in 1968; and a son-in-law, George Ozolins.
Graveside services and burial of the cremains of both Mrs. Green and her late husband will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 14, at the Rural Cemetery in Grahamsville.

Margaret Hust
Retired Nurse, 89

Margaret Hust of Sidney, a retired nurse, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Albert and Zanetta Treese, she was born December 19, 1914, in Altoona, Pa. She was the widow of Dr. Philip Hust who died in 1988.
Mrs. Hust graduated from a nursing school in Pennsylvania.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Joan of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hust of Kenoza Lake; five grandchildren, including Dan Hust of Damascus, Pa., and Rebekah Failla and her husband, Louis, of Alfred; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Philip Hust.
A gathering commemorating Mrs. Hust will be held at noon on Tuesday at the United Methodist Church Hall in Sidney.
Private burial will be made in the Kenoza Lake Cemetery.

Rosemarie Nitschke
Ret. SCCC Teacher, 76

Rosemarie Nitschke, a 45-year resident of Grahamsville and a retired 20-year teacher at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, died February 14, 2004, at Hope Hospice House in Ft. Myers, Fla., where she volunteered for many years. She was 76 years of age.
The daughter of the late Ernst and Lena Lieblich, she was born March 2, 1927, in Vienna, Austria. She was the widow of Jacques "Jack" Nitschke.
Mrs. Nitschke earned a B.S. degree in Science from St. Lawrence University. She moved to Grahamsville in 1959 and was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and the church choir in Grahamsville, which was a great source of strength and fellowship throughout her life.
In a family statement, it was said, "Rosemarie will be greatly missed by all who knew her gentle and caring spirit. She was an extremely giving person who always thought of those around her first. She loved her family and friends, attending the theatre, traveling near and far and working any and all mediums with her hands."
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Michele Nitschke; a daughter, Julie, and her partner, Pierre; two granddaughters, Jaime and Corinne; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Grahamsville Methodist Church.

‘Sissy’ Mathis-Brown
Machinist, 49

Frances E. "Sissy" Mathis-Brown of Monroe, a lifelong area resident and a machinist for Monroe Tube Company in Monroe, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at her home. She was 49 years of age.
The daughter of Jannie King Mathis and the late William J. Mathis, she was born May 26, 1955, in Spring Valley.
She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #488 in Monroe; a member of the Lakeside Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Bronxer Bayern in the Bronx and was the Queen Mother of the Steel Talons Motorcycle Club in Monroe.
Mrs. Mathis-Brown is survived by her husband, William E. Brown Sr., at home; her mother of Pine Bush; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason M. and Jennifer Mathis of Bloomingburg and William E. Jr. and Aimee Brown of Monroe; a daughter, Kelly Soto of Niagara Falls; a brother, William M. Mathis and his companion, Laura Van Duzer, of Bloomingburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Deb and Pete Brush of Pine Bush; 10 grandsons; a nephew, Scott Brush; a niece, Janna Brush; and a lifelong friend, Renee Taylor.
Funeral services were held at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe on Sunday evening with the Rev. Rich Reinhardt officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeside Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary or to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #488 both at Monroe, N.Y. 10950.

John Schwab Jr., 62

John G. Schwab Jr. of Pine Bush, a lifelong area resident, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. He was 62 years of age.
The son of Mildred Myrtle Ryan Schwab and the late John George Schwab, he was born February 15, 1942, in Ellenville.
Mr. Schwab is survived by his mother of Pine Bush; three sisters, Joyce Ashey and her companion, Edward Schweizer, of Highland Lake, Nancy Bittner and her husband, Edward, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Dolly Mack and her companion, Thomas Kelly, of Woodbourne; a brother, Michael Schwab and his wife, Bonnie of Sundown; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his twin brother, James.
Services will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Loucks Funeral Home in Ellenville with the Rev. Jay Vogelaar officiating.
Burial will be made in the Fan-tinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.

Dorothy Baggatta
Nurse's Aide, 55

Dorothy A. "Dee" Baggatta of Middletown, a nurse's aide at St. Teresa's Nursing Home for 14 years and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Horton campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 55 years of age.
She was the widow of Joseph Frank Baggatta.
In a family statement, it was said, "She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her."
Mrs. Baggatta is survived by her mother, Dorothy McDowell; four daughters, Tammy McMillen and her boyfriend, Dave Giggey, of Otisville, Patty Baggatta and her husband, Larry Swanson, of Bloomingburg, Joey Baggatta and her boyfriend, Artie Winters, of Bloomingburg, and Keesha Perales and her husband, Joseph, of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Jenny and Harold Vanauken of Slate Hill; a sister-in-law, Patricia Baggatta; a brother-in-law, Tony Baggatta; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Joseph, Tiffany, Tori, Tara, Skyler, Blade, Jarred and Destiny; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Salmons and Marie Draper.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown.
Burial will be made in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.

Seraphina Mudaro
Homemaker, 83

Seraphina "Sarah" Mudaro, a 20-year resident of Honesdale, Pa. and a homemaker, died Saturday, June 5, 2004. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Vito and Frances Puma, she was born October 11, 1920, in Brookyn.
An active and devoted area volunteer, Mrs. Mudaro served at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa., the Red Cross, the Cancer Society, the Chamber of Commerce and finally at the Wayne County Senior Citizen Center where she leaves behind a host of friends and acquaintances.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Jeffrey Clemente of Narrowsburg; a grandson, Matthew Clemente of Beach Lake, Pa.; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Sam and Eva Mudaro of Las Vegas, Nev., and John Mudaro of St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Yetta Stein
Ret. Hotelkeeper, 84

Yetta Stein of Brooklyn, a former longtime resident of Monticello who operated the Delano Hotel with her parents for many years, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Beth Israel Hospital in Brooklyn. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Abe and Della Schecht, she was born March 24, 1920, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Louis Stein.
Mrs Stein is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Madelyn and Alvin Schneider of Alpharetta, Ga., and Illene and Sam Zink of Marlton, N.J.; four grandchildren, Jay, Denise, Lindsay and Barri; six great-grandchildren, Jared, Alison, Jaclyn, Samantha, Sophie and Gabriella; and twelve nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Tuesday at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
