LOCH SHELDRAKE — December 23, 2003 – The Lady Goldbacks of Newburgh Free Academy soundly defeated the Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs 46-26 on Sunday afternoon in the girls’ championship game of the fifth annual Sullivan County Community College (SCCC) High School Holiday Tip-Off Tournament.
As coaches and players know, it’s hard to come back from a 22-point deficit. Therefore, SW (4-1) really never had a chance at the proverbial brass ring after Newburgh (5-0) amassed a 29-7 lead at halftime.
The Lady Goldbacks’ Erica Boadi was game’s high scorer with 12 points. Teammate Kanisha Henderson added eight points.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Vanessa Kline and Nadine McCarthy each scored a team-high seven points.
Stats from the free throw line: Newburgh was 4-of-9 (44 percent), SW went 6-of-13 (46 percent).
Boadi was chosen as the MVP of the tournament and Henderson was selected for the all-tournament team. SW’ s Heather Lander and McCarthy were also named to the all-tournament team.
