Indians Scalp Comets

LAKE HUNTINGTON — December 12, 2003 – In the 2003 Billy Moran Tip-Off Classic consolation game, the Liberty Indians edged the Comets of Fallsburg, 48-42.
The game was played on Tuesday night in Sullivan West High School’s new state-of-the-art gym.
The lead see-sawed back and forth, as each team alternated outscoring the opposition period by period.
Fallsburg (0-2) took a 9-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. But Liberty (1-1) surged back to outscore the Comets, 18-10, in the second period, which gave the Indians a five-point lead (24-19) at the half.
In the third period, the Comets lit up the glass, outscoring Liberty, 12-6. In the final quarter, the Indians clinched the contest, as they outshot Fallsburg, 18-11.
Liberty also fared better at the free-throw line. The Indians made 6-of-12 (50 percent) foul shots, while the Comets converted just 2-of-9 (22 percent).
Double digit scorers for Liberty were Andrew Riegler, who finished the game with 13 points and Jason Garrett, who netted 12 points.
For Fallsburg, Doug Novogrodsky had a game-high 15 points and Kalvin Carter 10.
