Kicked Out

ALTHOUGH AT FIRST glance it appears as though Sullivan West’s Jonathan Reynolds is hitting the soccer ball with his fist, it was actually kicked into the air by Tuxedo’s Mike Monroe.

Just One Does In
Sullivan West

JEFFERSONVILLE — October 24, 2003 – The visiting Tuxedo Tornadoes defeated the Bulldogs of Sullivan West on a couple of penalty kicks in the second half of Wednesday’s non-league soccer match.
After a scoreless first half of play, Greg Brewer scored for SW (5-12) on an assist from Jonathan Reynolds at the 21:25 mark.
With 5:10 remaining in the match, Tuxedo (7-8-1) tied it up 1-1 on a penalty kick by Heli Minano.
Moments later, with only 48.2 seconds left on the game clock, Minano won the match for the Tornadoes on a tie-breaking PK.
“It was a wild one, it went back and forth,” Tuxedo Coach Dave Powers said. “It’s been a fun season.”
SW Coach Joe Ebeling said it was a good game “until the penalty kick at the end.”
“But that’s the breaks, that’s the way it goes,” he added.
As he looked ahead to the Bulldogs’ final regular season match – a contest versus the Liberty Indians scheduled to be played this afternoon in Jeffersonville – Ebeling spoke about the overall season.
“The guys gave it their all,” he said. “I have two soccer players, Jon Reynolds and my goalie Joey Layman, who’ve been outstanding for us, and a bunch of athletes.”
