SHANEE WEEKS OF Fallsburg fouls off a pitch in the fourth inning of Tuesday’s game.

SW Successfully
Battles Fallsburg

By Rob Potter
FALLSBURG — May 23, 2003 – The Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs used a familiar formula for victory in Tuesday’s non-league game versus host Fallsburg.
That formula is scoring runs early and letting pitcher Erin Rosenberger and the defense behind her stifle the opposition.
SW (8-4) scored twice in the top of the first and added eight more in the second to take a 10-0 lead. Although Fallsburg (1-13) battled back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, Rosenberger and her Lady Bulldog teammates kept control of the game.
Rosenberger struck out 11 Lady Comets and allowed just three hits to pick up the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the fourth. Tiffany Hauser walked to lead off the inning and stole second. She tagged and moved to third on a fly ball and scored on a Fallsburg error.
Heather Nober singled, moved to second and third on passed balls and scored on a groundout to give SW a 12-2 lead.
Fallsburg scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Ashley Frunzi doubled with one out and later crossed home plate on a groundout.
SW closed out the scoring with five runs in the top of the seventh. The key hit was a two-run triple by Madelyn Arquetta.
Jessica Lederman paced the SW offense with two hits and an RBI.
“A win is a win,” SW Co-Coach John Meyer said. “Erin pitched well and it was a good last [regular season] game for the seniors.”
Meyer noted that the team will now focus on sectionals, which begin next week.
“It was good to see that we were scoring runs, hopefully we’ll continue to do that next week,” he said. “Hopefully we can win at least a couple of games in sectionals.”
