A Look At
Local Bowling

By Ed Townsend
KIAMESHA LAKE — January 3, 2003 – Ryan Lepke missed perfect 300 games this past weekend at Kiamesha Lanes.
Last Saturday night – which since the date was December 28, 2002 was also last year – in the Mixed Doubles League, he recorded his first 299 game when a ringing 10 pin stood on the 12th ball. All 11 strikes including the 12th ball were in the 1-3 pocket.
Then on the following night in the Sunday Night Mixed Doubles League, another one pin leave on the 12th ball left him with his second 299 score.
Ryan has been bowling for some 20-plus years and his previous high single game was a 286 and his previous high series was a 761.
He maintains 206 and a 211 averages, respectively, in the Saturday and Sunday Mixed Doubles League. He also bowls in the Wednesday Mountain Top ISPN Men’s League, where he has a 211 average. Lepke also subs in the Friday Mixed Doubles League with a 222 average and the Monday Men’s League with a 192 average.
The 299 game on Saturday was bowled on lanes 13 and 14 while the 299 Sunday night was on lanes 3 and 4.
Ryan, 30, is single and employed as a bus driver at the Tri-Valley Central School. He also works part-time at Kiamesha Lanes.
Each of the 299 games was bowled with a Columbia Icon 2.
Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo
Bowlers: This week’s tip will be helpful for bowlers of all levels, from beginners to professionals.
To be able to be consistent with your physical game, your head must be steady throughout your approach until you deliver the ball. If your head is bobbing up and down, or weaving from side to side, it will be difficult to duplicate your shots and hit your target.
If you are not sure how steady your head is throughout your delivery, try this exercise: put a baseball cap on when you practice or hold a drinking straw with your mouth. As you are bowling, you will be able to see the ball of the cap or the straw moving around and if so, you will be able to see your progress as you work on making that part of your game better.
