Peter J. Carroll, 66
Ret. NYC Policeman

Peter J. Carroll of Neversink, a retired New York City Police Officer, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at his home. He was 66 years of age.
The son of the late Peter J. and Mary A. Ward Carroll, he was born September 5, 1937, in Brooklyn. He was the widower of Kathleen O'Connell Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
In a family statement, it was said, "Remembered always as a devoted husband, beloved father and wonderful grandfather, he touched many lives with his love and kindness and will be deeply missed by all who knew him."
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Christa Carroll of Woodbourne; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Steve D'Agata of Kauneonga Lake; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and John Doherty of Hobart and Eileen and Edward Morganstein of Martinez, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Steven, Anthony and Danielle D'Agata, Candace, Brandie and Kaylee Carroll and Nicole, Michael, Peter Jr. and Christopher Carroll. He was predeceased by a son, Peter J. Carroll Jr. who perished in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
Cremation was private at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

Adeline Katzman
Ret. Businesswoman, 85

Adeline Katzman of Forestburgh, a retired business owner and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at her home. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Lena and Jack Kadison, she was born July 1, 1918, in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joe Katzman, at home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Marsha Katzman of Saratoga Springs, Jack and Margo Katzman of Somers and Richard and Sarah Katzman of Forestburgh; five grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Hillary Katzman of Hastings, Karen Katzman and her husband, Lyle Margolis of New York City, Brian and his wife, Sarah Katzman of Oswego, Adam Katzman and his fiancée, Tara Burke of Blue Bell, Pa., and Linda Katzman of Somers; three great-grandchildren, Emma Margolis, Samuel Katzman and Jason Katzman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Saul Kadison.
A memorial service was held Friday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi David Senter officiating.

Eda I. Scott, 89

Eda I. Scott of Charleston, S.C., died Thursday, September 25, 2003, in a nursing home. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Carlo and Carolina Bienotti Pittaluga, she was born December 5, 1913, in New York City. She was the widow of Francis Daniel Scott.
Mrs. Scott was a retired employee of the New York Bell Telephone Co. in the communications department.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was devoted to her family and to her Lord."
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Scott Strich of Charleston, S.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Scott of Stuart, Va., Allan and Karen Scott of Smallwood and Gary and Susan Scott of Glenview, Ill; two sisters, Inez Beers and Josephine Stephenson; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, October 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the poor and needy in your community in Mrs. Scott's honor.

Dorothy M. Brockel
Volunteer, 95

Dorothy M. Brockel of Neversink, a lifelong area resident and a volunteer for the Sullivan County Office of the Aging, serving lunches, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 95 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Emma J. Misner Countryman, she was born September 27, 1908, in Neversink. She was the widow of Victor Bedorf and Edward Brockel.
Mrs. Brockel was a member of the Grahamsville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Phil Nunnenmacher and his wife, Shirley, of Largo, Fla., and Dan Nunnenmacher of Marysville, Calif. She was predeceased by a sister, Minnie Nunnenmacher.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday at the Rural Cemetery in Grahamsville with the Rev. Lorraine Coscia Ackerman officiating.

Evelynn Bracey
Ret. Teacher's Aide, 45

Evelynn Bracey of Monticello, a former teacher's aide in Washington, D.C. public schools until two years ago, died Monday, September 22, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 45 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Belzora Darden Cross, she was born June 20, 1958, in Monticello.
Mrs. Bracey attended the First Baptist Church in Monticello.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie Bracey, at home; a son, Kiev Bracey of Monticello; two daughters, Tatanisha Bracey-Jordan and her husband, Marcus, and Schanell Bracey, all of Monticello; two brothers, Willie Bradley of Atlanta, Ga., and Michael Cross of Newburgh; a sister, Brenda Nichols of Monticello; four grandchildren, Tanasia Jordan, Tylajah Jordan, Daequan Jordan and Dajon Jordan; four nieces, Jade Bradley, Nakesha Hardy, Lamesha Hardy and Ebony Cross and three nephews, Hayward Miller, Ronnie Bradley and Mi-Kell Jackson.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at the Redeeming Love Church of God in Christ, West Broadway, Monticello.
Services will be held at noon on Thursday with the Rev. James Best officiating.
Cremation will be private at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Nora Knight
Ret. Domestic, 82

Nora Knight of Grahamsville, a domestic in private homes and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, September 26, 2003, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Howard and Phoebe Sheeley Knight, she was born February 16, 1921, in Grahamsville.
Miss Knight attended the Grahamsville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Clara Smith of Ellenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.

Richard H. Brown Sr.
Ret. Leisure Time Ice, 86

Richard H. Brown Sr. of Bethel, a longtime employee of Leisure Time Ice Co. in Kiamesha Lake, and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Liberty. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late Nathan and Elizabeth McGregor Brown, he was born September 19, 1917, in Bethel. He was the widower of Agnes Brown who died December 27, 1995.
Mr. Brown was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by three sons, Richard H. Brown Jr. and his companion, Kathy, of New Jersey, Ralph N. Brown and his wife, Jackie of White Lake, and James C. Brown of Rock Hill; six daughters, Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Brown of Black Mountain, N.C., Judy M. Huska and her husband, Ed, of Apopka, Fla., Barbara Cole and her companion, Steven, of Liberty, Frances Foster and her husband, Donald, of Bethel, Paula C. Weber and her husband, Raymond, of Narrowsburg, and Kathleen Brown-Brandes of Monticello; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.
Interment was made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.

Richard R. Earley
Bldg. Contractor, 53

Richard R. Earley of Lynn, Mass., a former resident of Narrowsburg, a building contractor and an auto mechanic, died Sunday, September 21, 2003, in Lynn. He was 53 years of age.
The son of the late Walter Sr. and Marie Meckle Earley, he was born November 8, 1949, in Beach Lake, Pa.
In his youth, Mr. Earley attended the Narrowsburg Central School.
Mr. Earley is survived by a sister, Mary Helene Jane Smith of Lothlin, Md.; two brothers, David John Earley of Weirton, W. Va., and Walter Earley Jr. of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was made in Massachusetts.
Burial of the cremains will be made at the Lava Cemetery in Narrowsburg.

Local arrangements were made by the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg.
