Murray Gershon, 70
Ret. Correctional Offc.

Murray Gershon of Woodbourne, a retired correctional officer for the Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Del Ray Beach, Fla. He was 70 years of age.
The son of Alice Gershon and the late Joel Gershon, he was born January 3, 1933, in the Bronx.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was active in the Boy Scouts, Little League, a member of the Woodbourne First Aid Squad and the Woodbourne Fire Department.
In a family statement, it was said, "Murray's loving family and numerous friends were devastated by his sudden death. He was an extraordinary individual. His kindness and consideration were well known and his humor brought joy and laughter into the lives of everyone who knew him. . . The most important thing to Murray was his family. His love for them was matched only by his joy of being a grandfather and great-grandfather."
Mr. Gershon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Gershon; his mother; two daughters, Donna and her husband, Steven, and Jamie; a son, Steven and his significant other, Cecil; five grandchildren, Julie, Joel, Jillian, Jason and Keith; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Ethan; and a large extended family.
Services were held Thursday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne with Rabbi Frank Moshe officiating.
Interment was made in the Congregation B'nai Israel Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Earl G. Booth
Ret. Ins. Agent, 79

Earl G. Booth of Bayonet Point, Fla., a resident of Florida since 1969, died Friday, April 4, 2003. He was 79 years of age.
Born in Grahamsville, Mr. Booth retired from Prudential Insurance Co. after 25 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 390th Bomber Group in England. He was also a member of the Elks and Am Vets.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Booth; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and John Johnston of Venice, Fla., Laurie and Ralph Broskey of Sebring, Fla., and Patty and Tom Monaghan of Englewood, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Cathy Booth of Hoschton, Ga.; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Interment will be made in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla., at a later date.

Roseanne Lynch
Registered Nurse, 62

Roseanne Lynch of Westtown, a registered nurse at the former Mercy Hospital in Port Jervis and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 62 years of age.
The daughter of the late Stanley and Rose Bastek Calak, she was born March 20, 1941, in Westtown. She was the widow of John J. Lynch.
Mrs. Lynch was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island.
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Monteleone of Narrowsburg; a son, Dale S. LeBar of Westtown; three grandchildren, Dale John LeBar, Michael Monteleone and Matthew Monteleone; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Bonnie Calak; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Nebus.
A Funeral Mass was offered Thursday at St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island.
Burial was made in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Cyrilla M. Libolt
Homemaker, 80

Cyrilla "Peggy" M. Libolt of Mountaindale, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Rienzie and Margaret Heacock Stratton, she was born December 27, 1922, in Fallsburg. She was the widow of Preston Libolt who died March 19, 1998.
Mrs. Libolt was a member of the Woodridge Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynne O'Leary of Schenectady and Sue Williamson of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Erin O'Leary, Colleen Dillon, Kevin O'Leary, Karen Lewis and Lesley Williamson; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Vincent Stratton of Fallsburg; and two nephews, Eugene Stratton and Frank Stratton and his wife, Annette, and a grand-niece, Danielle, all of Fallsburg.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Loucks Funeral Home, Route 209, Ellenville, with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Burial will be made in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Phillipsport.

Thomas Miller Sr., 58

Thomas Edward Miller Sr., a six-month resident of Rochester and formerly of Bloomingburg, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Rochester General Hospital. He was 58 years of age.
The son of the late Henry G. Sr. and Daisy Mae Greene Miller, he was born July 11, 1944, in Glen Rock, N.J.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Constance Pellew Miller of Chicago, Ill; three sons, Thomas Edward Jr., Jonathan Paul and Jason Michael Miller, all of Rochester; two brothers, James and Henry G. Miller Jr., both of Bloomingburg; three sisters, Beverly Marlin of Bloomingburg, Roberta Yuroshek of Montgomery and Nancy Zazversky of Montgomery; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the DeWitt Funeral Home, 64 Center St., Pine Bush.
Interment will be made at the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery with Pastor Robert Hewitt officiating.

Lawrence Hubbell
Ret. Bus Driver, 81

Lawrence W. "Larry" Hubbell of Hankins, a former bus driver for the Delaware Valley School and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Center in Liberty. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Harry and Octavia Fish Hubbell, he was born March 9, 1922, in Fishs Eddy.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Hubbell is survived by his wife, Aune Makela Hubbell, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Rob Slaver of Rochester; two granddaughters, Maizie and Amanda Slaver; two sisters, Sylvia Baxter of Rim Rock, Ariz., and Vivian Shepardson of Endwell; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Genevieve Ostrander.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Joseph Handsman, 83
Ret. Merchandise Mgr.

Joseph "Yussie" Handsman of Tucson, Arizona, a former resident of Monticello and a retired merchandise manager for Levi's Department Store in Tucson, died in Tucson on February 27, 2003. He was 83 years of age.
The son of the late Morris and Rebecca Eisner Handsman, he was born in Hasbrouck on August 31, 1919.
A 1937 graduate of Monticello High School, Mr. Handsman was a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army, serving in World War II and during the Korean War. Before moving to Arizona, he was a merchandise manager for John Wanamaker in Yonkers.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Handsman of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Beth, of Danbury, Conn.; a son, James Handsman of Boston, Mass.; a grandson, Michael of Danbury, Conn.; and a brother, Samuel Handsman of Clearwater, Fla. He was predeceased by three brothers, Emmanuel, Eugene and Herman Handsman, and three sisters, Pauline Berkowitz, Rebecca Gotcliffe and Mary Crotto.
Graveside services and burial were held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz.

Marie Tambasco
Homemaker, 85

Marie Tambasco of Westbrookville, a homemaker, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Josephine Agnella Leone, she was born April 15, 1917, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Frank Tambasco Sr. who died November 18, 1988.
Mrs. Tambasco is survived by a son, Frank Tambasco Jr. of Westbrookville; a daughter, Rosemarie Tambasco of Brooklyn; two brothers, Vincent Leone and Joseph Leone, both of the state of Florida; two sisters, Margaret Mangiapane of the state of Florida and Johanna Albenga of Westbrookville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the Westbrookville Cemetery with Father Bernard McDonald officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Ruth Jones
Homemaker, 76

Ruth Jones of Satsuma, Fla., and Monticello, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, in Florida after a long illness. She was 76 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles and Lena Morris, she was born October 24, 1926, in Mountaindale.
She is survived by her husband, John Jones, at home; five daughters, Ruth Ann, Mary, Shirley, Janet and Cindy; two sons, John Jr. and James Jones; and a granddaughter, Christina Sanabria.
Arrangements were made in Florida.
