Michael Fritz Bowls
Perfect 300 Game

By Ed Townsend
LIBERTY — November 1, 2002 – Thirty-one year-old Michael Fritz of Parksville scored his first-ever perfect 300 game on September 16 at Liberty Lanes.
Bowling in the Wednesday Men’s league, Fritz scored the 300 on lanes 9 and 10 using a Quantum bowling ball. He bowls on the Benny’s Upholstery team and his teammates include Shawn Tyler, Greg Quick, John Melchick and Buzz Banks.
Michael has been bowling for 10 years and maintains a 186 average in the one league in which he bowls.
The 300 score was recorded in his first game of the night and he added a 211 and a 206 for a 717 series. His previous high series was a 676, which he bowled in May 1999.
All 12 strikes were perfect pocket hits.
Michael is married to Deana and they have two children, Courtney and Michael.
He is employed as a mechanic for the Town of Liberty Highway Department.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo
Bowlers: In the past I have discussed the importance of cleaning and maintaining high performance bowling balls. This included keeping both the surface and the gripping holes clean.
What I neglected to mention, however, is that for bowlers using recreational equipment (polyester and rubber) it is just as important to clean the ball and the gripping holes each time you bowl. Even through the balls are not high performance, you still want the ball to make as much contact with the surface of the lane as possible.
The good part about this type of recreational equipment is that you can use household or car care products to clean the ball. You do not have to invest in the expensive ball care products that are a must for high performance equipment.
For the bowlers still using rubber, it may be time to retire these relics for several reasons. First, they are not compatible with today’s lane conditions. (There has not been a rubber ball made since 1985). Second, when they become coated with lane oil, they will slip coming up the ball return causing you to wait while the pin chaser retrieves the ball. Even if you clean the ball, it will only last a few frames.
Always remember, small things can make a difference.

In the final frame of the Professional Bowlers Association Memphis Open at Winchester Bowl, Danny Wiseman issued a verbal challenge to his long-time nemesis Brian Voss.
“Two to win, brotha,” Wiseman said.
Voss answered the challenge with two solid strikes and defeated Wiseman, 253-247, to capture his 22nd career title, along with the $40,000 top prize.
With the win, the 44-year-old Voss tied Marshall Holman for ninth on the all-time win list.
