How Monticello Did

By Rob Potter
MONTICELLO – July 5, 2002:

Overall record: 14-7

League record: 8-2 OCIAA Division III

Team leaders: Senior Megan Drobysh led the Lady Panthers with a .453 batting average. She had four doubles and 10 RBIs on the season.
As the team’s number one pitcher, Drobysh posted a 10-6 record with a 0.65 earned run average. In 108 innings of work, she struck out 55 opposing batters and walked only 27.
Senior second baseman Sam Lynch hit .351 this spring. She recorded one double, one triple, one home run and knocked in eight RBIs.
A member of the Lady Panther varsity squad for three years, Lynch posted a .378 career batting average.
Junior shortstop Shannon Dietrich batted .333 this spring, hitting five doubles and two home runs. She tied for the team lead in RBIs with 12.
Also posting 12 RBIs on the season was senior catcher Kim Donohue. A three year varsity player, Donohue recorded a .366 career batting average.

Season highlight: “One highlight would be winning the Tri-Valley tournament,” said Coach Ed Kaufmann. “Another would be losing a close game to Chapel Field in the finals of our own tournament at Collins Park. That was an exciting game against a good team.”

Season lowlight: “We had a disappointing loss to New Paltz in the first round of sectionals,” Kaufmann said. “We expected to make it to the second round, but we just didn’t perform well against New Paltz. We got beat in the field – we committed four errors.”

Team Awards: Senior first baseman Erin Shuart was presented with the Coach’s Award at the recent Monticello Central School sports banquet. She had a .271 batting average this season and recorded 10 RBIs.
