This Was a Good One

ROCK HILL — June 18, 2002 - The 10th Annual Walter A. Rhulen Memorial Rock Hill Run and Ramble took place this past Saturday at the Frontier Insurance Headquarters in Rock Hill.
The nearly 400 runners in the 5K event raised a total of $30,000 – after expenses.
“It went very well. I'm very pleased,” said Run and Ramble Chairperson Susan Rhulen-Loughlin. “$30,000 was our goal this year and we made that. I was very pleased with the quality of runners this year.”
The 385 runners who crossed the finish line either ran on their own or were running as part of a team. For example, local Weight Watchers groups signed up a team of 96 participants. Of that number, 80 showed up and finished the race.
“There were some good team efforts,” Rhulen-Loughlin remarked. “I want to thank the community (members) for all they did. It was a good team effort that raised money for a worthy cause.”
The $30,000 will be divided between the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the American Heart Association. All of the money will stay in the local area.
Runners competed in various age-groups, from 10 and under all the way to 70 and over. The 5K course wound around Lake Louise Marie.

“I won last year,” Grace said after the race. “Last weekend, I ran the Orange Classic and Heidi beat me. I had nightmares about that all week. I tried to run smart. I could hear her breathing. I wasn’t sure I could hold her off. I was racing against her. She has improved so much. It is very cool to win.”
