A Continuing Look Back

By Rob Potter
April 5, 2002 – Editor’s note: Today we continue our look back at how the 2001-2002 scholastic hoops’ season unfolded for local teams.

ELDRED
Overall record: 3-16
League record: 2-6 OCIAA Division V
Team Leaders: Sophomore forward Chris Ryman led the Yellowjacket offense. He averaged 12 points per game.
Coach Charlie Donnelly praised the play of the team’s lone senior, Warren Ritter.
“He provided great leadership for us throughout the season,” Donnelly said. “Warren was the glue for us, holding the team together.”
Season highlights: Donnelly noted that the team really improved towards the end of the season.
“Our goal was to win our last four games,” he said. “We won two of those last four. The team was definitely playing better in February.”
Other comments: Donnelly noted the contributions of a number of juniors, including Henry Bosch, Tim Gutman, Jim Nieke, John Martin and Devin Weyant.
“The guys played with a lot of effort all year,” the veteran coach commented. “And the way we played in February bodes well for the future.”
Team Awards: Individual team awards will be presented at the Eldred V Club dinner in June.
