Memorial Service
for Agnes L.S. DiVenti

A memorial service will be held for Agnes Lucile Schulz DiVenti of Bethel who died on May 20, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald Leigh and the Rev. Sidney Pinch officiating.
Interment of the cremains will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite 100, Arlington, Va. 22023.
Arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.

John C. Werlau
Ret. Constr. Wkr., 90

John C. Werlau, a 12-year resident of Modena, formerly of North Salem and a retired self-employed construction worker and an employee of Weller Estate in North Salem, died July 16, 2002, in the Hudson Valley Nursing Home in Highland. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late John and Elizabeth Wahl Werlau, he was born October 1, 1911, in Hortonville.
Mr. Werlau was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Modena, a member of the South Salem Fire Department and superintendent of Greendale Farm in South Salem.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Werlau, of Modena; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Joan Werlau of Modena, and Glenn and Christel Werlau of Patterson; a daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Austin Kile of South Salem; a sister, Elizabeth Capilla of Barnegat, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call at the Copeland Funeral Home in Modena on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Burial will be made in the Hortonville Cemetery.

Wayne E. Babcock
Carpenter, 51

Wayne Eugene Babcock of Wallkill, a carpenter for United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 0019 and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at the Manhattan VA Hospital in New York City. He was 51 years of age.
The son of Theodore and Joyce Walker Babcock, he was born May 6, 1951, in Margaretville.
Mr. Babcock was a veteran of the Air Force, serving from 1970 to 1972.
He is survived by a son, Wayne Scott Babcock of New Windsor; his mother of Gardiner; his father of Pennsylvania; three brothers, Michael Babcock of New Windsor, Randy Babcock of Jeffersonville and Barton Babcock of Gardiner; a sister, Connie Kenworthy of Wallkill; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kent Jackson officiating.
Burial will be made in Calvary Cemetery in New Windsor.

Janet E. Selneck
Ret. Manager, 75

Janet E. Selneck of Matamoras, Pa., a lifelong area resident and a retired manager of Lloyds Gas Station in Port Jervis, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at her home. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frank and Marian Philpitt Purrey, she was born February 22, 1927, in Port Jervis. She was the widow of Adolph Selneck.
An avid gardener, Mrs. Selneck was a member of the Sullivan County Co-operative Extension in Liberty.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Byrne of Sundown; two sons, Bruce Selneck of Shohola, Pa., and Craig and his wife, Deborah Selneck, of Milford, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Casey Byrne, Candace Selneck, Kristina Selneck, David Selneck and Richard Selneck; and several great-grandchildren.

Donald C. Hyatt
Auto Technician, 89

Donald C. Hyatt of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and an auto body and fender technician for Campbell's Auto Body in Roscoe, died Monday, July 15, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Ryerson Hyatt, he was born July 5, 1913, in Monticello. He was the widower of Pearl Hyatt who died in 1996.
Mr. Hyatt was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a son, Robert Hyatt of Middletown; a stepson, Harold Schrader and his wife, Joan, of Liberty; a daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Kenneth Akerley of Liberty; a grandson; five granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Hyatt.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating.
Burial will be made in the Rural Cemetery in Grahamsville.

Alberta K. Shaver
Ret. Tel Oper., 82

Alberta K. Shaver of Livingston Manor, a retired 39-year telephone operator for NY Bell Telephone and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her home. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Albert and Margaret Cass Krom, she was born October 8, 1919, in Livingston Manor.
Mrs. Shaver was a 50-year member of Sullivan Chapter #298, Order of the Eastern Star, in Livingston Manor, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and a member of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Victor E. Shaver, at home; a son, Kent A. Shaver, at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John W. Miller of Arlington, Tex.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph Edison and Mary Shaver, both of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, with the Rev. Robert Hoag officiating.
Burial will be made in the Orchard Street Cemetery in Livingston Manor.

Charles Carroll Sr.
Ret. NYC Emply., 79

Charles Francis Carroll Sr. of the Bronx, a former resident of Bloomingburg and a retired employee of the City of New York, died June 24, 2002, at his home. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Peter and Emily Carroll, he was born February 8, 1923, in the Bronx.
A World War II veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery. He also received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, European, African and Middle Eastern Service Ribbons and the American Theatre Service Ribbon.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Carroll, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and James Westerfield III of Pine Bush and Lorna and Roger Lee of Spring Hill, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles F. Jr. and Sherilyn Carroll of Walden and Robert and Tracy Carroll of Middleburg, Fla.; seven grandsons and their spouses, James IV and Doreen Westerfield of Wallkill, Todd and Wanda Westerfield of Middletown, Michael Carroll and Kevin Carroll, both of Walden, William Lee and Brian Lee of Spring Hill, Fla., and Nicholas Carroll of Middleburg, Fla.; a granddaughter, Jill Westerfield Davis and her husband, Robert, of Sandy Hook, Conn.; eight great-grandchildren; and a nephew and his wife, Thomas Robert and Mary Fitzsimmons, and their children, Thomas, Teri and Kevin, all of Lindenhurst, of whom the family said, "Their countless acts of kindness, devotion and love to our father will never be forgotten and we are forever grateful to them."
A private military funeral was held for Mr. Carroll.
Cremation was performed by the Neptune Society of Yonkers.

Elvira Andrighetti
Ret. Seamstress, 89

Elvira Andrighetti, a longtime summer resident of Lake Huntington, died June 20, 2002, in Brooklyn. She was 89 years of age.
A widow, retired seamstress/sample maker and former entrepreneur of André Sportswear, she would have been 90 on July 24. Her mother, Antoinette Saya, was also a longtime summer resident of Lake Huntington.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Joseph Dietz and Gloria and Jimmie J. McIlwain (Ret. Lt. Col.); six grandchildren, Karen Laurie, James Jordan, Maria, Robert Jordan, Richard James and Ronald Jon; and two great-grandchildren, Erik James and Christian Grant.
A Requiem Mass was offered at Regina Pacis Votive Shrine Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
Interment was made at St. John's Cemetery in Maspeth.

Marion Hahn
Homemaker, 92

Marion Hahn of Middletown, a former resident of Jensen Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at the Park Manor Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Robert and Julia Robbins Bennett Carr, she was born May 24, 1910, in South Centerville. She was the widow of Walter A. Hahn.
Mrs. Hahn was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middletown.
She is survived by a brother, Robert R. Carr of South Centerville; a sister, Martha McQueen of Middletown; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Eugene and Phyllis Hahn of Jeffersonville; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Carr and Henry Bennett, and a sister, Julia Johnson.
Friends may call at the Morse Funeral Home, 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown. on Friday from 2-4 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middletown.
Burial will be made in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.

Robert Byrnes
Corrections Offc., 58

Robert Byrnes of Ferndale, a corrections officer for the Woodbourne Correctional Facility, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at his home. He was 58 years of age.
The son of Charles Byrnes and the late Mary Kenny Byrnes, he was born November 19, 1943, in Manhattan.
A veteran of the U. S. Navy, he later worked and owned several businesses on Wall Street in New York City, including Byrnes Institutional Services, prior to moving to this area. He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Byrnes is survived by his wife, Donna L. Colley Byrnes, at home; his father; a sister, Alice Kirwin; two brothers, William and Terry Byrnes; six daughters, Barbara Seda, Ann McGarry, Denise Byrnes, Christine Mann, Kathleen Mercedes and Dawn Marie Cataneo; and several grandchildren.

Olga Sherwood
Former Oper., 56

Olga E. Sherwood of Loch Sheldrake, a former switchboard operator for the Concord Resort and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 56 years of age.
The daughter of Dusia "Debbie" Stetzuck Dolgas and the late Peter Dolgas, she was born February 28, 1946, in Straubing, Germany.
Mrs. Sherwood had also worked for Walmart in Monticello.
She is survived by her mother of Liberty; a sister, Mary Hearington of the state of Florida; her fiance, Patrick Maxim of Loch Sheldrake; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, West Street at Buckley, Liberty, on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ennis Kilbride
Ret. Landscaper, 73

Ennis Kilbride of Liberty, a longtime area resident and a retired landscaper, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Michael Ennis and Emma Woodhouse Kilbride, he was born September 22, 1928, on Staten Island.
Mr. Kilbride was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Maryann Switzer Sanchez Weeley Kilbride, at home; two step-children of Staten Island; a step-daughter, Rosanna Weeley Hicks and her husband, Joseph of Bradley, W.Va.; a stepson, James Paul Richard Weeley of Brooklyn; a grandson, Joseph Richard Hicks; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, with the Rev. David McCarthy, Rev. Harry Watson and Rev. Kenneth Ford officiating.
Private burial will be made in the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, W. Va..
