Memorial Service
for Josephine L. Diescher

A memorial service will be held for Josephine L. Diescher of Livingston Manor, who died on December 2, 2001, on Saturday, July 20, at the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stewart F. Pohlman officiating.
A committal service will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.
Arrangements were made by the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor.

Memorial Service
for Agnes L.S. DiVenti

A memorial service will be held for Agnes Lucile Schulz DiVenti of Bethel, who died on May 20, 2002, on Sunday, July 21, at the Bethel Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ronald Leigh and the Rev. Sidney Pinch officiating.
Interment of the cremains will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

A memorial service will be held for Marilyn Knotjes Richardson of Monticello, who died Friday, July 5, 2002, at St. Peter's R.C . Church, Broadway, Monticello. She was a former resident of Bergen County, N.J.

George H. Marshall
Ret. Salesman, 70

George H. Marshall of Neversink, a retired salesman for Sears, Roebuck & Co. and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility (formerly known as the Walnut Mountain Care Center) in Liberty. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late Delbert and Mabel Gorr Marshall, he was born February 10, 1932, in Livingston Manor.
Mr. Marshall was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member, past president, and past commissioner of the Neversink Fire Department; a member of the Neversink Ambulance Corps, the Neversink Republican Committee, the Liberty Baptist Church and a past superintendent of its Sunday School.
Mr. Marshall is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rena and Jonathan Mears of Neversink; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Becky Scriber of Montgomery, Douglas and Bonnie Scriber of Neversink and LeRoy and Della Marshall of Clintondale; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Dr. Richard Weintraub of Newburgh, Matilda Scriber of Modena and Nancy and Robert Dixon of Clintondale; three grandsons, Daniel Bertholf, Aaron Bertholf and Joseph Bertholf; a great-grandson, Austin Bertholf; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Lynn Marshall, and two sisters, Jane Callo and Ellen Hughes.
Services were held Monday at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor with the Rev. Robert Nadelen officiating.
Burial was made in the Orchard Street Cemetery in Livingston Manor.

Alberta K. Shaver
Ret. Tel Oper., 82

Alberta K. Shaver of Livingston Manor, a retired New York Telephone operator, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her home. She was 82 years of age.
Funeral arrangements are being made by the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor and are incomplete at press time.

Elda Jean Hoering
Foods Worker, 50

Elda Jean Hoering of Burgettstown, Pa., and a former Sullivan County resident, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at the Washington County Health Center in Washington, Pa. She was 50 years of age.
The daughter of Vincy Tabone Nencioni and the late Elio Nencioni, she was born March 19, 1952, in Canonsburg, Pa.
Mrs. Hoering had been employed by Schiavo Foods in Burgettstown, Pa., and had worked at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon.
She was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Bulger, Pa., and was a member of its Ladies Guild.
Mrs. Hoering is survived by her mother of Bulger, Pa.; her husband, Kenneth Hoering, at home; a sister, Anna Marie Slay, and a brother, Ronald Nencioni, both of Bulger, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered July 8 at St. Ann's Church in Bulger, Pa.
Interment was made at the Center Cemetery in Midway, Pa.

William Dishner
Ret. Salesman, 77

William Dishner of South Fallsburg, a retired salesman in secondhand clothing and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Rubin and Rose Milchman Dishner, he was born February 3, 1925, in New York City.
He is survived by a sister, Anita Lipschitz and a brother and sister-in-law, Julius and Annette Dishner, all of South Fallsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Friday at the Workman Circle #281 Cemetery in Glen Wild with Rabbi Isaac Gottlieb officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Elmer A. Getz
Ret. Carpenter, 81

Elmer A. Getz of Barryville, a retired carpenter for Camp Tel Yehuda in Barryville and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at his home. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Frank and Hannah Nungesser Getz, he was born April 20, 1921, in Glen Spey. He was the widower of Jane Putnam Getz.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Sylvan-Liebla American Legion Post #1363 in Eldred and a member of the Yulan Fire Department.
He is survived by a son, Frank E. Getz of Barryville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis with the Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiating.
Burial was made in Montoza Cemetery in Barryville.

Elizabeth Barrera, 72
Ret. Mortgage Banker

Elizabeth "Betty" Barrera of Woodmere, a former resident of Liberty and a retired mortgage banker for the Bank of New York, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at St. John's Hospital in Far Rockaway, L.I., after a short illness. She was 72 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Nancy Egiziano, she was born September 3, 1929, in the Bronx.
Mrs. Barrera formerly owned the Madison Restaurant in Liberty and was an administrator of the Sullivan County Rural Housing Opportunities. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty and a member of the Rosary Society.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Stefanie Barrera of Woodmere, L.I.; and a grandson, Leon Barrera.
Friends may call on Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 So. Main St., Liberty.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.

John O'Rourke
Ambulette Driver, 71

John O'Rourke of Liberty, a 35-year area resident and a driver for Unity Ambulette Service in Liberty, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late James F. and Helen Andersen O'Rourke, he was born January 19, 1931, in New York City.
Mr. O'Rourke was a member of the First Church of Monticello Presbyterian.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet Comfort O'Rourke, at home; three sons, John O'Rourke of Bayville, James O'Rourke of Dunkirk and Christopher O'Rourke of New Mexico; two daughters, JoAnn Eggleton of Fallsburg and Susan Sanchez of New Mexico; three brothers, Rev. James O'Rourke of Bethel, and Robert Jahn and Arthur Jahn, both of Monticello; two sisters, Carol Schoonmaker of Monticello and Helen Wall of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held at First Church of Monticello Presbyterian, on Sunday with the Rev. Alex McLean officiating.
Burial was made in the Van Keuren Cemetery in Swan Lake.

Donald W. Sturdevant
Ret. Corrections Offc., 74

Donald W. Sturdevant of Livingston Manor, a retired sergeant from the Woodbourne Correctional Facility with 28 years service, and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, July 12, 2002, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 74 years of age.
The son of the late Elmer Oscar and Ethel Turner Sturdevant, he was born May 20, 1928, in Livingston Manor. He was the widower of Jeanne O'Keefe Sturdevant who died in 1994.
Mr. Sturdevant was a member of the Cradle Rock Ridge Hunting Club, a past member and president of the Manor Hose Co. of the Livingston Manor Fire Department, and a former fire commissioner. For many years he was a basketball referee and baseball umpire for the Western Sullivan League and was president of the IAABO of the League. He was an outstanding athlete at Livingston Manor Central School from which he graduated in 1945.
He is survived by a son, Thomas M. Sturdevant of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela J. and William Loeb of Glens Falls and Janice S. and Guy Carlson of Livingston Manor; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Julia Sturdevant of Callicoon and Richard and Gertrude Sturdevant of Livingston Manor; six grandchildren, Heath and his wife, Chelsea Carlson, Adam Carlson, Aaron Carlson, Elizabeth Loeb, Jacob Loeb and Cpl. Joseph Loeb, USMC; two great-grandchildren, Justeen and Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Grooville Free Methodist Church, Grooville Road, Livingston Manor with the Rev. Craig Saunders officiating.
Burial will be made in the Lew Beach Cemetery in Lew Beach.

John A. Rizzo
Plumber, 55

John A. Rizzo of Westbrookville, a plumber and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at his home. He was 55 years of age.
The son of Thelma Gerry Rizzo and the late Samuel Rizzo, he was born February 5, 1947, in Newburgh.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Rizzo was a member of Local Union 373 Plumbers and Steamfitters in Mountainville.
He is survived by his mother of Newburgh; his wife, Glenna Baisley Rizzo, at home; a son, Anthony Rizzo, and a daughter, Tammy Thompson, both of Saugerties; two step-sons, John Lawless of Middletown and William Lawless Jr. of Lord's Valley, Pa.; a step-daughter, Kelly White of New Windsor; 10 grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Sharon Rizzo of Woodbridge, Va.; a sister, Geraldine Rizzo of Margate, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home in Middletown.
Burial was made in the Westbrookville Cemetery in Westbrookville.

William Stanton Sr.
Former Driver, 55

William Stanton Sr. of Rock Hill, a former driver for Big L Sanitation in Loch Sheldrake and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, July 13, 2002. He was 55 years of age.
The son of Eleanor Minckler Stanton and the late Frazier Stanton, he was born October 29, 1946, in Monticello.
Mr. Stanton was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Rock Hill.
He is survived by his mother of Rock Hill; a son and daughter-in-law, William Jr. and Cathleen Stanton of Thompsonville; a daughter, Eleanor "Missy" Stanton and her companion, Tom Hallenbeck of South Fallsburg; a brother, Ronald Stanton of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary Lou Porter of Rock Hill and Josephine Clark and her husband, Patrick, of Webster, Fla.; three grandchildren, John Frazier Stanton, Sarah and Rebecca Hallenbeck; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Rock Hill with the Rev. Roy Shafer officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Floyd E. ‘Bob’ Hubert
Ret. Electrician, 78

Floyd E. "Bob" Hubert of Hankins, a retired electrician with Local #806 and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Peter and Lillian Bucksbaum Hubert, he was born February 29, 1924, in Fremont Center.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was a charter member of the Allan Milk Post No. 7276, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Long Eddy, and a charter member of the Hankins Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Goodrich Hubert, at home; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Roger "Jim" and Nancy Green of Hankins; a step-daughter, Susan Shafarzek of Charlottesville, Va.; two foster daughters and their spouses, Brenda J. and Scott Smith of Livingston Manor, and Sandra and Al Grund of Ferndale; a sister, Catherine Poley of Roscoe; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Edward Bowers of Roscoe. He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Walter and Joseph Hubert.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, on Thursday, July 18, 2002, from noon until 1 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating.
Burial will be made in Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.
