VON STEUBEN DAY featured a queen, Alice Foster, and a king, Tom Wulforst, to head the festivities in Yulan. Naturally, both have a bit of Germany in their blood.

Yulan Celebrates
Von Steuben Day

By Susan Monteleone
YULAN — October 1, 2002 – Once again, the feeling of being German was felt throughout the small hamlet of Yulan at the recent 12th Annual Von Steuben Day Parade and Germanfest.
The event, which was hosted by the Yulan Fire Department, brought out more than 2,000 people to watch the colorful German parade, with marchers strutting their stuff down the main street of Yulan with a variety of German music and floats.
Afterwards, the public was treated to a vast variety of German food and desserts at the annual Germanfest held on the Yulan Firemen’s Field.
Firefighters proudly marched with their apparatus and were followed by school children who waved the American flag and sang patriotic songs.
The Von Steuben Day event began 12 years ago as a way to honor the German heritage that is keenly felt throughout Yulan.
The parade and Germanfest were overseen by King and Queen for the day, Tom Wulforst and Alice Forster. Also present were Miss Germany Heidi Mayer Bell, Miss Barryville Kristen Waters, and Miss Glen Spey Jennifer Sparres.
