ADAM LAKE WAS one of Liberty’s top batters this season.

How Liberty Baseballers Did

By Frank Rizzo
LIBERTY — July 3, 2001 – Overall Record: 2–17
League Record: 2–17 in the OCIAA Division III
Top Hitters: Joe Colacurcio batted .377 with seven homers. Mike Poje hit .366 and stole 15 bases. Adam Birkett and Adam Lake both batted over .300.
Top Pitchers: “Nick Rusin, he got both of our wins,” said coach James O’Connor.
Season Highlights: “I had a group of kids top heavy with seniors and they kept a good attitude throughout the season,” O’Connor said. “They tried hard every game. It was one of the most enjoyable seasons to coach. They never lost heart and showed up to play even though they knew they were outgunned.”
Disappointments: Obviously, a losing season. “We played in a very tough division,” said O’Connor, who, like other Liberty coaches, has had to contend with his squad’s moving up to Class B.
Final Thoughts: O’Connor cited junior Adam Myshtari, who worked his way into the starting lineup as an outfielder and “turned into a very good hitter.”
He also looked forward to the return of junior Randy Caruso. “He’s got a very good arm, he’s a very good player,” O’Connor said.
