André Peterson: The One and Only

By Frank Rizzo
POTSDAM — April 13, 2001 – The postseason honors continued for 1998 Monticello HS grad André Peterson, the leading scorer on the SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team.
The 6-foot-3 forward received honorable mention on the 2001 East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate Basketball Team.
Recently, he was named a first team member of the All-SUNYAC men’s basketball squad.
Peterson had earlier in January earned the SUNYAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
A junior majoring in information science, Peterson finished third in SUNYAC in rebounding (8.6 per/game) and was fourth in field goal percentage (.594).
He led the Bears in scoring with a season total of 417 points for a game average of 16.7. Peterson grabbed 215 rebounds to lead Potsdam with a 8.6 average. He also paced the team with 1.3 steals per game.
Peterson will enter his senior year with 998 career points.
Potsdam (13–12) lost in the opening round of the SUNYAC Tournament to eventual champion Brockport, dropping a 70-69 decision on a buzzer-beater.
“André is one of the best players in the SUNYAC and one of the best players we’ve ever had here,” said Potsdam coach Billy Mitchell, who added that, “he played with a lot of pain, with bone chips in his ankle.”
