Prepares For Fla.

Monticello— One reward for the Monticello/Pro Prospects Under 18 softball team winning the Collins Park Fall League championship was unexpected.
Coach Dennis Dietrich got a letter out of the blue from Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex, inviting his team to its Fast Pitch Festival on Presidents Day weekend next month.
The tournament is one of a number run by the American Softball Association at the complex.
“I don’t know how they found out about us,” Dietrich said Sunday evening as he supervised his team’s weekly practice at the Monticello Middle School gym.
Since getting the letter, Dietrich and the rest of the coaches and players have been busy raising the funds necessary for travel, lodging, and entrance fees.
One of the more successful of these was a 50/50 raffle which brought $2,500 into the coffers.
One area car dealer, which Dietrich said did not want the publicity, donated multi-passenger vans.
In addition to Dietrich, the other coaches are Pat Shuart, Kristie Dean, and Charlie Beamer.
Dietrich said the team is still seeking donations, which can be sent to:
