Lester C. Long, 65
Owned Apt. Complex

Lester C. Long of Rio Rancho, N. Mex., a former resident of Callicoon and Canastota, died on November 15, 2000. He was 65 years of age.
The son of the late Lester and Mildred Klein Long, he was born in Callicoon on September 27, 1935.
A graduate of Delaware Valley Central School in Callicoon, he moved about 33 years ago with his family to Canastota, N.Y., where they continued farming. Mr. Long was an avid hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a lifetime member and past president of the Canastota Conservation Club. He co-owned an apartment complex with his brother.
In a family statement, it was said, "Lester was a very devoted and loving husband and father and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends."
He is survived by his wife, Judith Long, at home; three children and their spouses, Captains Gene and Melissa Long of the United States Air Force, Dale E. Long and Maria Smith of Rio Rancho, N. Mex., Julianne L. and Frank L. Smith III of Canastota; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard A. and Jill K. Long of Canastota; three grandchildren, Abel, Matthew and Bernadette Chavez; a nephew, Andrew C. Long of Maryland; and many good friends and relatives.
A memorial service was held at the chapel of Rio Rancho Funeral Home in Rio Rancho, N. Mex.

John C. Cullen
Ret. Auditor, 101

John C. Cullen of Clearwater, Fla., a retired auditor for the New York Times, died Thursday, November 30, 2000, at the home of his daughter in Barryville. He was 101 years of age.
The son of the late James and Mary Ellen Barron Cullen, he was born October 1, 1899, in New York City. He was the widower of Grace Matheson Cullen.
Mr. Cullen was a former city clerk for Pinellas Park, Fla. He was also a 50-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons and a member of Good Samaritan Church in Pinellas Park, Fla.
He is survived by two sons, John C. Cullen Jr. of Indonesia and William M. Cullen of East Liverpool, Ohio; a daughter, Grace Forsythe of Barryville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Wilhelmine Glodde
Ret. Businesswoman, 94

Wilhelmine "Minnie" Glodde of Eldred, the retired owner/operator of H.E. Glodde Engineering in Eldred and a 45-year area resident, died Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at the Walnut Mountain Health Care Center in Liberty. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Herman and Amalia Lentzen Halfmann, she was born June 23, 1906, in Hahn, Germany. She was the widow of Herman E. Glodde who died August 17, 1988.
Mrs. Glodde is survived by a grand-niece, Sandra Halfmann of Eldred; and a grand-nephew, Hans Halfmann of West Bend, Wisc.
Services were held Saturday at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville with the Rev. Douglas Lee officiating.
Burial was made in the Montoza Cemetery in Eldred.

Greta E. Hedlund
Ret. Manager, 81

Greta E. Hedlund of Westbrookville, a retired manager for Life Uniforms and a former resident of New Jersey, died Thursday, November 30, 2000, in Winterton. She was 81 years of age.
The daughter of the late Edwin Carlsson and Johanna Olsson Johansson, she was born April 11, 1919, in Sweden. She was the widow of Gunnar Hedlund.
Mrs. Hedlund was a member of VASA Order of America and a member of the Vikings.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and Robert Yuengling of Westbrookville and Siv and Richard Erickson of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Helene Olsson and Inez Oberg, both of Sweden; and four grandchildren, Kurt, Mark, Mia and Britt.
A private memorial service was held.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

E. Shirley Chairmonte
Ret. Ames Handbag, 72

E. Shirley Wheeler Chairmonte of Pembroke, Fla., a retired employee of Ames Handbag in Newburgh, died Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at her home in Florida. She was 72 years of age.
The daughter of the late Reed C. and Esther Long, she was born April 22, 1928, in Newburgh.
She is survived by her husband, John Chairmonte, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Jean Wheeler and a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bernie Caradonna, all of Wallkill; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Mott of Newburgh, Jean Deluca of Florida, Doris Gallagher of Red Hook, Dawley DeMarr of Watertown and Barbara Sigler of Poughkeepsie; two brothers, Donald Long of Newburgh and Raymond Long of Bloomingburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Backanovic and Irita Kern, and a brother, Reed M. Long.
A memorial service was held at the home of her son in Wallkill on Saturday.

Jack V. Wallgren, 33

Jack V. Wallgren of Liberty, the owner/operator of Wallgren Auto Body in Liberty, died Friday, December 1, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 33 years of age.
The son of the late Wesley and Carol Landolphi Wallgren, he was born December 12, 1966, in Westwood, N.J.
Mr. Wallgren was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church, Ontario Hose Co. #3 of the Liberty Fire Department and the Liberty Chamber of Commerce, all in Liberty.
He is survived by his wife, Tara Schild Wallgren, a son, Zackary Wallgren, and two daughters, Alexandrea Wallgren and Kristie Wallgren, all at home; two brothers, Wes Wallgren of Smallwood and Vincent Wallgren of Liberty; five sisters, Tina Soriano of Staten Island, Wendy Delpozzo of Sunrise, Fla., Liza Andryshak of North Carolina, Sonja Baez of Liberty and Yvonne Wallgren of North Arlington, N.J; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 So. Main St., Liberty, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter's R.C. Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Interment will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.

Charles A. Nielsen, 94
Ret. NYCBWS Policeman

Charles A. Nielsen of Neversink, a retired captain of the New York City Board of Water Supply (NYCBWS) Police with 37 years of service, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, at his home. He was 94 years of age.
The son of the late Christian and Allette Augustinusen Nielsen, he was born June 7, 1906, in Brooklyn. He was the widower of Syrrine Andersen Nielsen who died in 1988.
Mr. Nielsen was member and former council person of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty. He was also a member and former chaplain of the Liberty Masonic Lodge #521 and recipient of the Lodge's Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Nielsen was a member and 36-year chaplain of the Neversink Fire Department, an organizing charter member and first president of the Neversink Fire Department First Aid Squad, and a former First Aid instructor. He was instrumental in helping several area ambulance corps to organize.
He had also served on the Town of Neversink Planning Board, was a 12-year member of the Tri-Valley Board of Education and was a volunteer and member of the Neversink Senior Citizens. He was a member of the Society of the Sightless and until this spring enjoyed attending their meetings. He enjoyed gardening and singing and sang with the Sullivan and Delaware County chapters of SPEBSQSA (barbershop quartet groups).
Mr. Nielsen is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman and Nola Nielsen of Fairfax Station, Va., and John and Darlene Nielsen of Bradley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and George Dexheimer of Neversink and Judy and Lynn Livermore of Rochester; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 South Main St., Liberty, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The fire department and first aid squad services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 26 Chestnut St., Liberty with the Rev. Audrey Pedersen officiating.
Burial will be made in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.

Gertrude Shiffer
Ret. Chambermaid, 77

Gertrude Shiffer of Monticello, a retired chambermaid for the Gibber Hotel in Kiamesha Lake and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late Benjamin and Sara Brumerman Shames, she was born October 28, 1923, in New York City. She was the widow of the late Abraham Shiffer.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Shiffer of East Greenbush; a daughter, Evelyn Bellis of Shirley; a brother, Isidore Shames of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Cheryl, James, Robin, Philip, Richard and Aaron; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two daughters, Arleen Dean and Jean Pomes, and a brother, Leonard Shames.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Andrew P. Hadden, 64

Andrew Paul Hadden of Loch Sheldrake, formerly of Port Jervis where he worked at Skydyne and Gillinders, and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, December 2, 2000, at the Sullivan County Infirmary in Liberty. He was 64 years of age.
The son of the late Theodore and Rose Matthews Hadden, he was born December 10, 1935, in Middletown.
In a family statement, it was said, "Andrew was a very kind person who came from a large family of seven girls and two boys. He loved his family and particularly his grandchildren that kept him going. In later years, he enjoyed doing arts and crafts."
He is survived by a daughter, Belinda Spears of Loch Sheldrake; four sons, Andrew Paul Hadden Jr. of Pennsylvania, Michael Hadden of Loch Sheldrake, Wayne Hadden of Huguenot and James Hadden of Monticello; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main St., Port Jervis on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert D. Cassidy officiating.
Cremation will be made at H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg, Pa.

Winifred Curry
Ret. Nurse, 83

Winifred Curry of Monticello, a retired nurse, died Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. She was 83 years of age.
Born August 19, 1917, in Wales, she was the widow of Charles Curry.
Mrs. Curry was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello.
In addition to her family in Europe, she is survived by several friends in the area.
Funeral services were held Monday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Robert Ginel officiating.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Stanley Brother, 83
Ret. Insurance Salesman

Stanley Brother of Monticello, a self-employed insurance salesman and longtime area resident, died Friday, December 1, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 83 years of age.
The son of the late Max and Sadie Carnegezer Brother, he was born July 3, 1917, in the Bronx.
Mr. Brother was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Ruddick Trowbridge American Legion Post, the Bailey-Richman Post No. 9588, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Jesse Brams Post No. 209, Jewish War Veterans, all in Monticello; and a member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue,
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Horowitz Brother, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Roberta and Lawrence Feldman of Boston, Mass., and Susan and Dan Hilsenrath of White Plains; and five grandchildren, Sari and Charles Feldman and Jamie, David and Jacob Hilsenrath.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Ben-Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.

Glenn R. Williams
Ret. Brakeman, 68

Glenn R. Williams of Matamoras, Pa., a retired brakeman and freight conductor for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Port Jervis and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, December 1, 2000, at his home. He was 68 years of age.
The son of the late Glendon A. and Elizabeth Brown Williams, he was born September 24, 1932, in Matamoras, Pa.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of the Marsch-Kellogg American Legion Post and the Mountain Laurel VFW Post, both in Milford, Pa. Mr. Williams was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Matamoras, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Stauffer Williams, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Glendon F. and Christine Williams of Milford, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Dominic Giovanniello of Matamoras, Pa.; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Lynn Williams of Mill Rift, Pa.; four grandchildren, Alexina and Angela Giovanniello and Peter and Georgana Williams; a step-son, James Poston and his wife, Lorraine of Glen Spey; two step-daughters, Jill O'Neill of Matamoras, Pa., and Pamela Bell and her husband, Ken, of Mill Rift, Pa.; seven step-grandchildren, Alexandria Poston, Aimee O'Neill, Joshua Poston, Erika Poston, Adrian Poston, Connor Bell and Austin Bell; and six nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Gertrude Slater Williams, who raised him from a young child.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Matamoras on Monday with the Rev. John J. Turi officiating.
Burial was made in Mill Rift Cemetery in Mill Rift, Pa.
