Howard W. Kewley
Carpenter/Lather, 73

Howard W. Kewley of Kauneonga Lake, a union carpenter and lather for Local 499 in New City and a 60-year area resident, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Howard and Grace McCary Kewley, he was born March 19, 1927, in Sherill.
Mr. Kewley was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello, a more than 50-year member and current treasurer of the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department; a former commissioner of the Kauneonga Lake Fire District; a member of the Bethel Lions Club; an NRA firearms instructor; a Boy Scout leader; member and current secretary of the Sullivan County Dive Team and a certified scuba diver.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Frances Sardonia Kewley, at home; two sons, William Kewley of Havertown, Pa., and James Kewley of Buffalo; two daughters, Susan Homes of Deland, Fla., and Barbara Putzer of Harris; and three grandchildren, Katie Kewley, Patrick Kewley and Samantha Putzer.
Services were held Monday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.
Burial was made in the VanKeuren Cemetery in Swan Lake.

Angel L. Rivera, 81
Ret. NYS Parole Comm.

Angel L. Rivera of Puerto Rico, a retired commissioner for the New York State Division of Parole and a former Goshen resident, died Friday, April 7, 2000, in Puerto Rico. He was 81 years of age.
He was born June 19, 1918, in Cayey, Puerto Rico.
Mr. Rivera was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Goshen.
He is survived by his wife, Eneida Rivera of Goshen; 10 children, Cesar Rivera of Puerto Rico, Milton Walker of Goshen, Nelsie Walker of Bradenton, Fla., Jose Rivera of Goshen, Victor Rivera of New York City, Andrea Roberto, Elba Rivera and Miriam Connolly, all of Goshen, Lyda O'Shea of Bloomingburg, and Carrie Lynn Walker of South Carolina; two brothers, Jaime and Julio Cesar of Puerto Rico; a sister, Providencia of Puerto Rico; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were held at the National Cemetery in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Gale Lynn Kearns
Taxi Driver, 44

Gale Lynn Kearns of Liberty, a taxi driver, died Saturday, April 8, 2000. She was 44 years of age.
The daughter of the late Robert and Betty Seibert, she was born January 20, 1956, in Jersey City, N.J.
She is survived by a daughter, Kelly Kearns of Harris; a son, John Jay Kearns of Woodbourne; two grandchildren, Kayla and Jordan; three sisters, Arlene Friend of Mississippi, Roberta Caso of Michigan and Dawn Seibert of Loch Sheldrake; and two brothers, Wayne Seibert of Ohio and Barry Seibert of Nevada.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Main St., Woodbourne.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

William M. Fiero
Ret. Serviceman, 78

William M. Fiero of Bloomingburg, a retired serviceman for Gor-Duns in Florida and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at his home. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Alton H. and Ruth Scott Fiero, he was born November 14, 1921, in High View.
In a family statement, it was said, "William passed away peacefully at his beloved home in High View. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather."
He is survived by his wife, Verna Hoffman Fiero, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, William M. Jr. and Jayne L. Fiero of Walden; two granddaughters, Ashley Beth Fiero and Dana Katherine Fiero, both of Walden. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Fiero Morley, and two brothers, Richard W. Fiero and Alton H. Fiero.
Private services were held with the Rev. Donna Hawkins-Hull officiating.
Burial was made in the Westbrookville Cemetery.

Theresa E. Grillo
Ret. Bank Emply., 72

Theresa E. Grillo of Chester and Sebring, Fla., a retired employee with Key Bank in Chester, died Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Town of Greenville. She was 72 years of age.
Mrs. Grillo was born May 14, 1927, in Middletown.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was and will always be our inspiration, our love, our heart and our soul."
She is survived by her husband, Arthur D. Grillo, at home; her children and their spouses, Robert H. and Deb Boyle of Delaware, Linda K. and Christopher Hoye of Greenville, Richard L. and Denise Boyle of Maryland and Patti J. and Steve Velardi of New Jersey; a daughter-in-law, Linda L. Martin of Bloomingburg; a brother, Ellsworth Kammerer of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Eva Gricewich, and a step-son, Arthur F. Grillo Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Columba R.C. Church, High St., Chester.
Burial will be made in St. Columba Cemetery in Chester.

John W. Buckley
Doctor of Dentistry, 68

John W. Buckley, a Doctor of Dentistry in Honesdale, Pa., formerly of Stony Brook, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pa., after a long illness. He was 68 years of age.
The son of the late Henry and Edna Baker Buckley, he was born February 13, 1932.
Dr. Buckley was a graduate of Brooklyn Prep High School, Holy Cross College and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. He practiced in Honesdale and at the Delaware Valley Job Corps Center in Callicoon. Dr. Buckley was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, Pa., and a former president and board member of Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Buckley, at home; three sons, Mark Buckley of Sea Girt, N.J., Christopher Buckley of Forest Hills, and Stephen Buckley of Stony Brook; three daughters, Lisa Buckley of Erial, N.J., Ann Curran of Malvern, Pa., and Sara Prescott of East Petersburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Barbara Buckley and Doris McAuliffe.
Cremation was made at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald, Pa.
A Memorial Mass was offered Monday at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Honesdale.

Mary Goldstein
Ret. NYC Teacher, 91

Mary Goldstein of Monticello, a retired New York City public school teacher and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the Bethel Health Care Facility in Bethel, Conn. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Kaminsky, she was born June 16, 1908, in New York City. She was the widow of Ralph Goldstein.
Mrs. Goldstein is survived by two sons, William Goldstein of Wilton, Conn., and David Goldstein of New York City; a brother, Morris Kaminsky; a sister, Frieda Zierer; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Jon and Sara Goldstein; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Goldstein and Adrienne Wachel; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday at the Joseph N. Garlick funeral Home with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Interment was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.

Stanley P. Sieja
Owned Sieja Const., 55

Stanley P. Sieja of Glen Spey, the proprietor of Stanley Sieja Construction in Glen Spey and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis. He was 55 years of age.
The son of Walter S. Sieja and the late Mercedes "Pat" Nolter Sieja, he was born February 15, 1945, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Sieja was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Maria H. Muncha Sieja, at home; a daughter, Jennette Sieja of Monticello; a son, Michael P. Sieja stationed with the U.S. Air Force at McGuire AFB in New Jersey; his father of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Kathy Haas of Eldred; two grandchildren, April and Philip; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Sieja.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis, followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Ann's R.C. Church in Shohola, Pa., with the Rev. Michael Quinnan officiating.
Burial was made in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Eldred.

Andrew F. Mikulski Sr.
Ret. Mechanic, 78

Andrew F. Mikulski Sr. of Middletown, a retired 25-year mechanic for G.I. Fuller, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at the Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Frank and Katherine Kacisa Mikulski, he was born November 24, 1921, in Pine Island.
Mr. Mikulski was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; a member of VFW Post 10542 and the Disabled American Veterans, both in Middletown; and a member of Woodmen of the World.
In a family statement, it was said, "Dad was a hard worker who was cut down in his prime 23 years ago with his first heart attack. He fought a great battle to be with us for those 23 years. Before he left the hospital, Dad told us that he wanted us to remember that he had a good life and had no regrets. He was our inspiration and our love. We will miss him deeply."
He is survived by his wife, Helen Gancarcik Mikulski, at home; two daughters, Catherine Ann Panaro of Middletown and Deborah Grendanin of Otisville; two sons, Robert F. Mikulski of Middletown and Andrew F. Mikulski Jr. of Westbrookville; a grandson, Patrick V. Panaro of Coconut Creek, Fla.; six granddaughters, Kathy-Jo Velazquez and Amanda Mikulski and Kristy Mikulski, all of Middletown, and Rita Mikulski, Kierstan Mikulski and Meghan Mikulski, all of Westbrookville; three great-grandsons, Andrew Velazquez and Nicholas Velazquez, both of Middletown, and Ryan Mikulski of Westbrookville; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Middletown.
Burial was made in St. Joseph Cemetery in Middletown.
